Dux Soup Review: Is It Legal? Does It Still Work In 2023?

Quick Summary
Despite it’s weird name, Dux Soup was one of the first LinkedIn lead generation tools I’ve ever used, and it was pretty damn effective. Like most things in life, Dux Soup is best used in moderation when leveraging it’s powerful outreach tools.
Dux Soup can be downloaded for free. Many of the useful features are paid, and can be purchased either through a monthly or annual subscription.
This Chrome extension helps you put your lead generation game on autopilot by automating tasks such as viewing profiles, sending invites, and private messaging your group of existing connections.
Now for a word of caution. This tool is considered ‘cheating’ in the eyes of LinkedIn. If you misuse this tool and crank the settings up too high, you could receive a warning email, or even get your account suspended.
During my time using Dux Soup I have never had any issues with LinkedIn flagging me. Just know that this tool is considered blackhat, and carries some risk if you use it.
Using Dux Soup did take a bit of time, and there is a slight learning curve, especially when using some of the more advanced filtering features. I’ll throw in some free tips and tricks further along in this review if you do decide to try it out.
With that said I think it’s still an excellent product given its low monthly cost and freemium version to test out. To get the most out of Dux Soup I found the Pro version at $15.00 a month would cover most small to medium-sized sales teams. At this time, this is still cheaper than LinkedIn’s Sales Navigator starting at $29.99.

Ease Of Use
Downloading and installing Dux Soup is easy, and only takes a few minutes. Since Dux Soup is strictly a Chrome plugin, you’ll need both Google Chrome, and a Google account to login with.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much instruction once you get the plugin installed. I personally don’t mind clicking around to find out how things work, but some might find that frustrating.
There is a button labeled Tutorials that takes you to the Dux Soup YouTube channel, where there are 10 videos explaining the basics of tool.
While this can give you an understanding of the features, the videos don’t help you come up with an outreach strategy, or give any tips on how to organize your lead data.
I’d like to see more interactive tutorials built into the tool, as well as additional resources customers could use to get results by using the software.

You’ll notice fairly quickly that to do any sort of worth while prospecting, you’ll really need to pay for the Pro version of Dux Soup.
Prospecting
The main reason you’ll be using Dux Soup is to find qualified leads, and make valuable connections. The trick is to perfectly mix automation, with a templated message that feels personal. This will take some creativity, but is worth it once things are running on autopilot.
At the most basic level, you can use Dux Soup to improve and automate the searching of prospects that meet specific criteria.
From the LinkedIn search page you can perform a number of prospecting actions against your current set of search results. First, use the search tool to narrow your results by locations, position, or level of connection. Once you have your list, you can start the outreach process
Visit Profiles – Choosing this will automatically start visiting profiles in your list and recording their data. Profiles will see that you viewed their profile. This acts as a small form of engagement and helps bring prospects forward to view your profile. This action can be done of the free version of Dux Soup.
Visit & Connect – Yes, you guessed it. This visits the profile, as well as sends that user a connection request. Connection requests can be customized with a message to feel more personal and increase the chance they accept your connection.
Under the settings tab you can also choose to skip certain profiles that meet certain criteria. Skip profiles without photos, ones you’ve visited recently, ones that are tagged, or even profiles that match a custom regex expression.
Scan Profiles – This feature scans the profiles without triggering a ‘recently viewed’ event on the user’s profile. This is great for gathering data to export into your CRM.
Outreach
Once you compiled a list, and sent out connection requests, it’s time for follow-ups and list segmentation. While there is no official training for this process through the Dux Soup platform, this can all be done through tagging. Tagging can be automated and allows you to visualize where a prospect is in terms of outreach, follow-up, and interest.
Could this tagging be easier? I think so. It can be hard to visualize all of your tags and exactly where everyone is in your follow-up sequence plan. I think an overhaul of how this is visualized would help Dux Soup users make decisions and view their tags.
Now what tags you create and how you use them is left completely up to you. Sure this gives you or your sales team freedom, but a little guidance for the freelancer or small business would have been helpful.

Automation
Of course, the real power in Dux Soup is not having to reach out to prospects manually, and no Dux Soup review would be complete without touching on this. Manual prospecting takes tons of time away from you, or your sales team.
I just wrote a guide on how to get 500 connections on LinkedIn quickly. Spoiler alert, Dux Soup was key in getting it done in just under two weeks.
Sales outreach works best when your message is highly customized, and luckily if you tag your prospects correctly, you can send messages that don’t feel copy pasta’d.

We’ve all gotten those boilerplate LinkedIn DMs that just suck. They’re super generic and usually just talk about what service they offer.
The hidden power in Dux Soup is the ability to segment people based on your past engagement, their industry, and your mutual connections so you can craft a message that stands out.
Here’s everything Dux Soup can automate:

Its not a bad spread. Another cool feature of Dux Soup is that it can integrate with other APIs or automation platforms like Zappier. With the Pro version you won’t have to rely on third-party plugins, and can tap directly into the Dux Soup API.
Customization
While with most software customization is a luxury, with Dux Soup it can help you fly under the watchful radar of LinkedIn.
With the free version, you’re pretty limited in what you can, and can’t change. The default setting for connection frequency and outreach is set to a safe limit by default. Changing it can get you burned if you go too crazy with it.
By being able to modify some of these settings you can strategically dial them up or down depending on what your goals are, and what your other settings are set to.
You can fully customize about a dozen automated actions to really tweak your sales outreach. There’s an entire section dedicated to skipping profiles that match certain criteria. This is ideal for sending follow-up, and wanting to avoid re-sending to those that have responded.
The throttling tab lets you fine-tune your profile viewing speed and behavior. For instance, you can throttle up, or down when picking a range of profiles to visit per hour. Here you can also change how many requests you limit yourself to a day, along with direct messages and profile visits. Any customization on the throttling tab will require Dux Soup Pro to modify.
Dux Soup Support
Support was not so great a few years ago, but I’m happy to report this is changing. If you’re a solopreneur or completely on you’re own, you’re going to have questions that can’t be handled by your team. Bottom line, you’re going to need some help.
Now support for Dux Soup has come a long way since I first tested it out several years ago, which is a really good sign and shows they’re still committed to supporting their software.
If you get stuck with a specific feature, there is a fairly detailed knowledge base that you can use to search for your problem. If that doesn’t work there is live chat during EU and US business hours, as well as support via email. You can now even request 1 on 1 remote support calls for free as well. These free support call sessions cap out at a maximum of 15 minutes.
Dux Soup support has expanded their offerings and now has two additional forms of support.
Booster Sessions: These sessions start at $79.95/hour and assist you in creating workflow processes in Dux Soup, as well as finding and targeting your ideal clients on LinkedIn. Hint: You can get some of these same strategies for free when you sign up through me. 😉
Technical Sessions: These also start at $79.95/hour and are geared towards more complicated integrations and solutions. If you needed to tie Dux Soup into another software through an API or a service like Zapier, this is where you’d find the help.
Community: But support should also be found in a software’s community. Unfortunately, Dux Soup isn’t the most popular tool out there, so it’s user base isn’t massive.
You can find other users asking questions in the Dux Soup Facebook group. I don’t think you’ll get a faster response here per say, but it’s interesting to see what others are trying to do with the platform.
Longevity
How long will Dux Soup be around for? Well, it’s anyone’s guess. Unlike other tools, Dux Soup directly violates LinkedIn’s terms of service, and this could mean that it could be gone tomorrow.
LinkedIn could attempt to sue Dux Soup, or more likely, push out an algorithm update that breaks or disables functions in Dux Soup. This results in a cat-and-mouse game between the two companies, where one breaks a function, and the other fixes it as fast as possible.
While this hasn’t happened in a significant way yet, it could. So it’s important that if you’re looking for a long-term rock solid LinkedIn tool, this isn’t it. But to be fair, no LinkedIn automation tool will be. This is simply the risk we take when we leverage certain tools to get ahead.
Here’s why I don’t have a problem this:
Dux Soup is incredibly affordable when you pay by the month, this means you’re not locked in and can cancel at any time. If something goes south, breaks, or you’re just not happy, you can cancel at anytime.
Dux Soup Pricing
The amount of value you receive through the Pro plan of Dux Soup far outweighs its monthly cost. Even the free version can significantly help you organize your LinkedIn profiles and internal notes.
The fact that you can cancel anytime protects you from getting burned on large upfront investments. Dux Soup has a no hassle 30 day refund policy. Simply cancel your service within 30 days and send their support an email.
With LinkedIn lead generation being offered as a SaaS product it keeps companies like Dux Soup on their toes. This means they’re constantly innovating, updating and patching to keep it’s customers each and every month. That translates to a win for you.
You can choose between monthly or annual billing, where the annual plan saves you between $4.00 to $14.00 per month depending on if you choose Pro or Turbo respectively. Either way you slice it, Dux Soup still beats out LinkedIn Sales Navigator, which starts at $29.99 a month.
Pro vs Turbo Plan
So you’re thinking about getting Dux Soup, but aren’t sure what plan is for you? No worries, let’s quickly go over the differences.
Dux Soup Pro: If you’re a small startup, solopreneur, or freelancer, this will pretty much cover everything you need to get started. The Pro plan features most of the automation and customization that give Dux Soup it’s mojo. If you find yourself needing features like automated drip campaigns and CRM integration, you can always upgrade.
Dux Soup Turbo: If you already have a LinkedIn sales process in place, and have a small team dedicated to outreach, you’ll likely want to invest in the Turbo version.
This plan gives you additional automation tools as well as CRM integration, and advanced metrics on your lead generation funnel. The features in Turbo are really built to enhance a larger sales team environment.
Is Dux Soup Legal?
Yes, Dux Soup is legal. You cannot be fined or arrested for using the product. Dux Soup does however directly go against the Terms of Service that LinkedIn provides, meaning your account could be warned, penalized, or suspended if you abuse automation on their platform.
Here’s a secret. While LinkedIn formally states automation is against their policy, they realize a large amount of their user-base does it.
It’s my opinion that LinkedIn turns a blind eye to most automation, as long as it’s not excessive or spammy. If LinkedIn wanted to, I believe they could write a program to detect the presence of automation plugins, but they don’t.
How Does Dux Soup Work?
Dux Soup works by installing directly into your Chrome Browser via an extension. Once installed, it begins scanning and detecting LinkedIn profiles and provides you with a number of automated features.
Dux Soup avoids detection by mimicking human behavior, making it more difficult for LinkedIn to detect that automation software is being used.
Dux Soup Review Conclusion
If you’re looking for a tool to build an automated LinkedIn strategy around, you really can’t go wrong with Dux Soup. While it can be a little tricky to get the hang of, it’s definitely worth learning to use.
